Russell Edwards at Drinking Liberally

From our local Drinking Liberally chapter:

The Athens Chapter of Drinking Liberally is happy to announce former U.S. House of Representatives candidate and local attorney Russell Edwards will be attending this week's meeting a very special guest.

Mr Edwards ran against Paul Broun Jr. in 2010 touting a message of unity and common sense during a particularly difficult election cycle. In addition he co-hosts a radio program called "True South" with Neal Priest on WGAU 1340 AM, Saturday mornings at 10.

Mr Edwards will be available to discuss his experiences in the election and the political world from a first hand perspective and what we can do to push forward for constructive change. He'll be accompanied by his fiance, local business owner (and force to be reckoned with in her own right) Airee Hong, owner of Agora.

Drinking Liberally - Athens is happy to host the event at the usual location, Little Kings Shuffle Club 223 W Hancock Ave. Thursday September 1st, 7 pm.

All of any political persuasion are invited. Should be a fun night. Please forward or repost as you like. Tell your friends and family. See you there.

Preservation Matters

Preservation Matters presented by Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation

On Monday, August 29, Mark C. McDonald, president and CEO of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, will discuss a topic important to many Athenians, “Historic Preservation and Sustainability.” The talk will explore the environmental benefits of historic preservation and how they relate to land use, urban planning, and green building.

He will stress the need for preservationists and green building advocates to cooperate and will also explain the sustainability goals set by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.

This event will be held at the Melting Point. Join us to mix, mingle, and eat at 6:00 p.m. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. and is FREE and open to the public.

“Preservation Matters” debuts in August as the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation’s newest program, to annually consist of a lecture, hands-on-workshop, symposium and tour. Visit http://www.achfonline.org/ for more information.
