Athfest & found footage festival

"""To celebrate their 20th year of collecting forgotten VHS tapes, Joe Pickett (The Onion) and Nick Prueher (Late Show with David Letterman) return to Athens with a special "Best of the Fest" lineup from their acclaimed touring showcase of odd and hilarious found videos, accompanied by their unique observational commentary. 20
years of regrettable exercise videos, 20 years of insulting training videos, 20 years of forsaken home movies -- all in a one-of-a-kind, one-night-only celebration of video obscurities and live comedy at AthFest."""

Call for artist/sculpture

Not Athens related, but I know there are lots of artists here...
(from xanadu gallery...)
We have a commercial client looking for a mid-size bronze sculpture (approx. 5 ft. tall x 5 ft. wide x 2 ft. deep) that would have appeal to a western rural/Native American clientele. Subject matter could include a horse and rider.

The owner of the business is only interested in very a realistic, traditional style. No contemporary/abstract works would be of interest.

The budget is approximately $25,000 retail. (Xanadu's commission is 40% for the project.)

If you have or know of any bronzes that might fit the above criteria, please email images, dimensions, and retail price to elaine@xanadugallery.com.

Don't have a piece that will work but know someone who might? Please pass this email on.

Friends of ACC Library Seeks volunteers

Tuesday night, 6-7-11, at 7 p.m. is the next meeting of Friends of the Athens-Clarke County Library. http://www.clarke.public.lib.ga.us/arls/support/athfriends.html There still are a couple of openings on the Friends Board that we would be delighted to fill if there are any A-CC residents interested. I've been on the board for a year and have been impressed with the amount of offerings Friends makes available to the community. The workload is not heavy and the activities sponsored by Friends are always fun ones.

Friends of the Athens-Clarke County Library is a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of the library and helps supplement library funding shortfalls. Funds raised by Friends help the library to better serve and enrich our community by making available free information, education, entertainment, and literacy activities for library patrons. In the current economy, use of the library has heavily increased (books, periodicals, movies, activities), but library funding has not increased, so Friends activities will be more important than ever.

If you are interested in working on the friends board, please come to our meeting Tuesday to see what we do and then, if you are interested, put your name forward as a nominee.
If you can't find the time to work on the Friends Board but wish to become a member of the Friends non-profit organization, the online membership form can be downloaded from the link above or at: http://www.clarke.public.lib.ga.us/arls/support/fotl_membershipform.pdf
