Just passing along....
Every day in Athens, nearly 500 individuals, including nearly 100 children, are homeless – living in shelters, in cars, and
in tents. As our poverty rate continues to climb, government funding to support our work continues to decline. More than
ever, we will rely on the residents, businesses, and churches of this community to support our work. Your sponsorship of
the 6th Annual Harvest for the Homeless will help us provide these essential services – to provide the opportunity for self-
sufficiency – to the many homeless families in the Athens area.
In order to raise awareness of National Hunger and Homelessness the Athens Area Homeless Shelter will be hosting the 6th Annual Harvest for the Homeless Reception on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Rialto Room of the Hotel Indigo beginning at 7:00pm. Community leaders and shelter supporters are invited to this reception to celebrate the success of the Athens Area Homeless Shelter in its efforts to help homeless families and individuals achieve self-sufficiency. Now in its sixth year, Harvest for the Homeless serves to heighten awareness in the community
about homelessness, while raising funds for the operation of our transitional shelter program for homeless families with
children. Harvest for the Homeless raffle tickets will be sold until December 3rd, with the chance of winning 52 gift
certificates to local restaurants--the opportunity to eat out once a week for a year for free! This reception will
feature live performances by the Modern Skirts and Thieves Company, and a silent auction, and will be catered.
