Beginning workshop in scottish genealogy

Saturday February 7, 1:30 - 5:45 p.m.
Small Conference Room, Athens-Clarke County Library
1:30 - 1:45 p.m. Check in
Workshop begins at 1:45 p.m.

This is NOT a beginning genealogy class. It is a class for people who have been doing genealogy and are now ready to "go across the pond" in search of their ancestors in Scotland. This will not cover Scots-Irish since we have very limited time. We will follow a Scotsman who migrates to the U.S. in the early 20th century. We will show how much information can be learned from using the online census records (both from the United States and the Unite Kingdom) through Ancestry to then find other information. Then we will use at least one database from Scotland.

Please bring the pedigree chart tracking from you to your Scottish ancestor(s) and/or the first person from Scotland in your line. Also bring Family Group Sheets detailing these various family groups. With that information you should be able to find some things online.

Handouts will be provided. This workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Please register online through the form on this page, or download the form and mail to: Theresa Graham, Heritage Room, 2025 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30606, or drop off at the Heritage Room desk. Deadline is Sunday, February 1 or until filled, whichever comes first.

Number of participants is limited to 20.
