Southern Mutual Building
Anyone can buy a piece of Athens and put a sign saying whatever they want, but this is called the Southern Mutual Building. Sometimes it is called the Commerce Building. It is not the Fred Building. In fact, this new sign looks like one of the famous MIT hacks, such as the "Changed Lobby 7 Inscription" or "So Long And Thanks For All The Frosh".

Fred Moorman is the Anti-Christ. See other Banner-Herald articles about how he has used homeless and mentally ill people for what is, in my opinion, slave labor-- and had to answer in court about it. You wouldn't believe the things this "man" has done to his tenants and other people-- just ask some of them.
I noticed this just the other day when I was downtown. As a long-time area resident who returned not too long ago, I wondered if it had always said The Fred. Glad to have the clarification.
I hate to see the building convert to apartments...seems a shame to not see it continue as private/public office space that everyone can enjoy.
