Athens Farmers Market/Festival at Bishop Park

I keep meaning to visit the Athens Farmers Market at Bishop Park, although after checking out the list of vendors, I am a little surprised at how many arts and crafts folks are listed, but then again, this is Athens. Art and artists are everywhere! I do think it's a marvelous idea and I hope more local farmers contribute. I'm definitely going to check it out for pumpkins this fall.

For those of you who have gone to the Farmers Market @ Bishop Park, what do you think?

The next Farmer's Market Day: SATURDAY, June 6, 2008

I am a volunteer-member of the Board of Directors of Athens Farmers Market, LLC. Let me update y'all on our progress.

We have had a consistent patron count of 1000 to 1200 visitors each Saturday, since our open (which had 2700 visitors). We have grown from 7 growers every Saturday to 14 local, sustainable farmers every Saturday. We now even have "Certified Naturally Grown" meats, including beef and poultry.

The summer weather has brought bountiful harvests of in-season produce, so we have a good selection right up 'til closing at Noon.

Our artists bring great crafts, including soaps, jewelry, photography, yard art, hats, and other hand crafts that are exceptional in their quality and beauty.

We have fresh baked breads, fresh juices, all prepared in local certified kitchens, for your healthful enjoyment.

We have music by local artists, usually starting at 8AM through closing.

This week (August 6, 2008) we began our underwriting of WUGA (NPR) radio to remind everyone of the market.

The environment is festive and fun. Do yourself and your family a favor by dropping by for the fun.
