Tables and chairs

There are a bunch of shiny new ones on College downtown, on the Ben & Jerry's/Grill side of the street. It seems like some of them belong to the former establishment, which looks like they've got a sidewalk cafe permit now (and a new railing?) but do they all? And why? They're really encroaching on the bench space. Is that the intention? Because I can't see most ice cream places as needing a lot of seating space.

Sidewalk tables often encroach on public space used for important things, like just walking down the sidewalk. Sorry, but I think there are too many.

Perhaps the idea is that eating ice cream outside in the summer time attracts more customers to the ice cream place.

I just walked past there and the Ben and Jerry's tables go way up past the actual store. I think there are too many of them and they are crowding the public benches. The tables have a card on them identifying them as Ben and Jerry's tables. I would have thought there would be ordinances concerning that.

Yeah. How much are they paying for that "cafe," for example? It's all the way in front of Barnett's.
